Back in the City

Daily Digs as featured on http://www.twitter.com/slangsmithfm follow us there to catch them as soon as they drop and let us know what you think.

These ran on Monday night, my first night back in Baltimore after being in the studio with Nicky Faders for the previous week. What were we working on? Guess you'll find out soon enough.

I was glad to be back in Baltimore and I soaked up the energy and sound of the city.

The voices of the people on the block, the snippets of conversations captured at bus stops, my coffee shop ear hustles.

Monday night was a restless night. I was worried about going to court on Tuesday.

But everything worked out okay. The way things generally do. When was the last time something was ever as bad as you thought it would be?

Nevermind. Don't answer that

Letting It Rest Before I Run It

I want to say that this playlist is landing here late because yesterday...I had court and that pretty much takes you out of the game.

But...truth is..I am glad I let this list sit for a few days. I am enjoying the listen back much more as a result.

As is the custom, I like to ease you into with some mello joints before we get too turnt.

Here are your from Sunday Night. Hope you enjoy. Catch them when they drop every night on https://www.twitter.com/slangsmithfm

What Today Is About

Saturday in the summer is supposed to be special. And even though it is not officially summer, we can still act like it.

These are the tracks I came across on Saturday. And happy belated to my brother Velez, it was his birthday Saturday.

By the time Saturday night rolls around, sometimes you already start to feel like the weekend is half over...(it is). But that's all good. Run these and reminisce about the good times.

Enjoy this collection of tracks and catch all of our digs as soon as they drop by following @slangsmithfm on twitter.

First Friday's and Such

I am posting the playlist from last night here. You know...the tracks that we flip on to Twitter...that ones that might go on rotation on our 24/7 streaming joint that you can play from right here. (Or you soon will be able to..still working on that).

There is not necessarily a rhyme or reason to the mix. It really is just dictated by what I happen to find on SC on a given day.

So we have some future soul, some trap, some lo-fi Instrumental Hip-Hop, some remixes...a variety of sounds to choose from.

What really jumped this week for me was the release of a couple compilations that are pretty dope and have been featured pretty heavy on the feed.

One is from Zen Supremacy. I probably playlisted a track off that joint everyday this week. It's a free download so you might as well check it out. (The track that appears on this playlist is the Lege Kale Joint).

The Turbo Tape crew also dropped a joint a week or so ago that I am still digging.

See you tomorrow. Pizza's here.

These tracks were featured on the Slangsmith Radio digs for Friday June 5, 2015. Everyday we post the most interesting, creative tracks we discover on Soundcloud on our twitter feed. Follow us https://www.twitter.com/slangsmithfm Or rock with us at http://www.slangsmith.fm

Sped-Up Soul Samples

Beat makers have been sampling soul samples forever. And they have been speeding up those samples for a couple decades easy.

It may have been Kanye and Just Blaze who did it so unapologetically (and effectively) on The Blueprint that thrust the technique into the spotlight. But it was nothing new.

As with anything, once everybody jumps on it, the sound gets "played out" and most people move on to the next thing.

Funny thing tho...

When you find a really interesting sample, chop it well, and surround it with the right drums...it's gonna work. That's as fundamental as a Tim Duncan bank shot.

Could dachin have done more with this track? Certainly. But I sorta like where he left it.

Figured I share it. What do you think?

Saturday Morning Digs

By the time Saturday rolls around my ears are sometimes dead. I am listening to new music for hour after after hour everyday.

So Saturday I spend time listening back to the tracks that I bookmarked and liked to see if I am still fuckin' with them the way I was when I first heard them.

My mood determines what I think is hot..so if my mood is different, I may be like...wtf was I thinking..this shit (I am listening to) is wack af.

But some stuff is undeniable heat.  There are levels in the game and BMA is on a different level.
